South Africa's largest city, Johannesburg, and it's
capital, Pretoria, make up the province of Gauteng.
Known as 'Egoli' - Ciy Of Gold - Johannesburg is a melting
pot of local culture and history. Soweto is a bustling
hive of activity, with residents representative of all
nine of South Africa's ethnic groups.
Gold Reef City,
a town built on a gold mine, is not to be missed. For
a historical and informative stance one can see the
pouring of the gold and visit the old printing press.
There is also plenty of entertainment, including an
amusement park and casino, whilst accommodation is to
be had at 4 star hotels.
The city itself
offers a wealth of shopping destinations, notably Sandton
Shopping Mall, which is ideally positioned near to excellent
hotels, offices and the Sandton Conference Centre.
The tuscan-style
Monte Casino is sure to provide an unique experience
out, with designer boutiques, trendy restaurants, live
shows, casino and 5 star hotel. For curio shopping Rosebank's
African Art and Craft Market,
as well as the Bruma Market, are a must.
Pretoria
is home to some of the country's most interesting landmarks,
including the Union Buildings, Voortrekker Monument
and Melrose House. During the spring months of October
and November the streets of Pretoria come alive with
the mauve blossom of the Jacarranda tree, adding a charming
ambience to the bustling capital.
